Selkirk is a town located 12 miles north of Hawick. From the car park, which is not far from the site of the Battle of Philiphaugh (1645), the track climbs onto open farmland on a recognized path, gradually ascending to the 3 Brethern Cairns and trig point. The path follows the route of the Southern Upland Way to the summit.
Spectacular panoramic views of the Borderland hills, from the Eildons round to the Ettrick and Yarrow valleys and on towards St Mary’s Loch. The hills of the Northumberland National Park can be viewed to the south.
Taking an alternate route down a small detour to the gravesite of Tibbie Tamson is well worth the extra effort.
